Good morning,
The book of Deuteronomy is a recap of the previous books. It rehearses the law, the wilderness wanderings, and God’s direction for Israel as they enter into the promised land.
Chapter 10 summarizes what God requires of Israel. In fact, it is only verses 12-13.
“And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,13 To keep the commandments of the Lord, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?”
Interestingly enough, that is what God requires of believers in Christ. It is important for us to remember that obedience to God’s commandments is an indication that we love Jesus, John 14:21. If we obey, we will love the Lord, which will cause us to walk in His ways, leading to service, and reverent fear.
Wow! Two Old Testament scripture verses, written to the nation of Israel, have the power to impact our personal lives, our church’s, our country, and the world for Christ. Obedience to God’s word has the potential to cause revival in our world.
But it all starts with obedience to God’s word.
