Good morning,
This week we will begin a ten week series on the Old Testament foundation stones. These are the bedrock for what we believe. Without an understanding and obedience to these teachings, no one can correctly understand the rest of the Bible. Including our salvation.
Our study will encompass the whole book Genesis 1-50 and Exodus 1-12.
We begin with an introduction to the Old Testament, things to know about the Old Testament, and the eight foundation stones.
Things to know about the OT
a. Inspired by God (2 Tim 3:16)
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”
b. The OT was written mostly in Hebrew with a few passages in Aramaic
c. Testament means covenant. Old covenant is of the Law.
d. 929 chapters, 23,214 verses, and 592,439 words.
e. Middle book Proverbs, middle chapter Job 29, middle verse 2 Chronicles 20:17
“Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.” (2 Chronicles 20:17)
What a great verse for the middle verse of the Old Testament. God is with us in all our battles. He protects us, encourages us, and sustains us in every situation.
God inspired His word. He expects us to use it. When we do, we will understand His word, we will know when we have done wrong (reproof), we know how to correct our error, and we will understand what it means to be righteous. We will be fully armed for whatever the devil throws at us.
