Good morning,
Colossians 3:1-17 is a companion to Psalm 37. Righteousness versus wickedness, good versus evil. We are exhorted to seek things above, put off the wicked character and put on righteous character. The result is the new man has the peace of God. Then we are admonished to let the word of God dwell in us.
Seek those things above V1-7
Seek those things above V1
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Set your affections on things above V2
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Mortify your members which are upon this earth V5-7
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
Colossians 3 gives us three things to do. Seek those things which are above, set your affections on things above, and mortify (kill) your members which are on the earth.
The question is where is our focus? Is it on this sin sick world or on heaven and the realm of glory? On Satan or Jesus? On hell or heaven?
God wants our complete attention. He wants us to focus on the things above. He wants our minds set on Godly things, not the things of this world.
Is that our desire? It should be.
