THE GOSPEL IN ONE VERSE
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Introduction D. L. Moody
God
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God,…”
Omniscience
GOD is omniscient, All knowing (Psalm 139:1-4)
“O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.”
Omnipresent
God is omnipresent, He is everywhere (Psalm 139:7-10)
“Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.”
Omnipotent
God is omnipotent, He is all powerful (Jeremiah 32:27)
“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?”
Genesis 1 references God 31 times. God is mentioned in the Bible 4,379 times, which is .5%.
So loved the world
Demonstrates His love (Romans 5:8, 1 John 4:7-10)
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
He gave his only begotten Son
Paid my sin debt (Hebrews 10:11-14, 1 John 2:1-2)
“And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.”
“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”
Whosoever believeth in him
Believe and receive Christ as your personal Lord and Savior (John 11:25-26, John 1:12-13, Revelation 3:20)
“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
Have everlasting life
Eternal life (John 3:36, 1 John 5:11-13)
“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”
It was always God’s intent to redeem sinful men and women through the blood sacrifice of His Son Jesus. It had to be a blood sacrifice from a spotless lamb, Jesus.
Be very thankful for God’s provision!
